Central Illinois Expungement Lawyers
Clean Up Your Criminal Record
Many people worry about prison sentences and fines that come with a criminal conviction, but these penalties are often minor when compared to the lifelong consequence of having an arrest show up in background checks for the rest of your life. Even if you were found “not guilty” in a trial, the record of your arrest will show up on your record, which is sometimes enough to disqualify you from employment or housing opportunities.
If you have been arrested or convicted of a crime, it is worth your time to find out if you’re eligible for expungement or record sealing. When your records are sealed, your conviction or arrest will no longer show up on background checks unless someone obtains a court order.

Am I Eligible for Expungement?
Expungement is restricted to only certain people charged with a crime. If you were arrested and not convicted, you can probably have your record expunged without much difficulty. However, if you were convicted, you can only have the record expunged if certain criteria are met.
You must meet one of the following criteria for expungement in Illinois:
- You were found not guilty or the charges were dismissed
- You were convicted of an expungement-eligible misdemeanor
- Sentenced to supervision
- It has been 5 years since your supervision was discharged
- You have not been charged with another crime
- You served a prison sentence for select misdemeanors
- It has been 5 years since your sentence or probation ended
- You have not been charged with another crime
- You received a pardon
- You were the victim of criminal identity theft
Many people ask us if they can have a DUI charge expunged. Unfortunately, Illinois does not consider these eligible for expungement if you were convicted.
